The ability to capture a fleeting memory, to preserve a significant moment in time is powerfully satisfying to me. I am challenged to find treasure through my lens, whether it be an elusive green heron, a purple sunset, or a child’s perfect expression. I want my images to showcase God’s exquisite creation, to celebrate the art of life. The Process My photosessions are quite different. Not only do I exclusively use natural settings, I strive to capture life as it happens. I find that my best portraits happen serendipitously, in an unplanned, unposed manner. I allow ample time to allow my subjects to feel comfortable with me and to capture their unique personalities. Sometimes this happens on a farm, with rustic backgrounds of barn siding and wheat fields. Sometimes it happens at the subject’s home, a nearby woodlands, or a wildflower garden. I have several locations where I like to shoot, but am open to your ideas and suggestions. I LOVE discovering a new spot to take portraits! I encourage my clients to be creative, to bring any props they want, to change outfits as often as they want. I like to consult with my clients weeks before the photo session to ascertain what “mood” or “theme” they are wanting their portraits to reflect. Once we figure out that, we can decide on clothing, prop, and location choices. Because the world is my studio – all of my portraits are one of a kind. Every portrait session will have its own unique feel and look. I take my time (and several hundred shots) to ensure that I capture my subject at his/her best. The Details And then I take those images into my “digital darkroom” and let the artist in me take over. I spend many hours editing and perfecting the photos. Then I post them online so they can be viewed (the album can be password protected if the client desires). I send my images to a highly professional digital photo lab that only professional photographers can use. Since I put so much work into every picture , I definitely want the print to be as best as possible. I want my clients to love their portraits and to be able to have many of them in albums, frames, and hanging on their walls!
